I WELCOME THAT, THANK YOU SO MUCH, I REALLY APPRECIATE AND I SAY THIS, I HAVE GREAT

[00:00:05]

RESPECT FOR THE WORK THAT YOU ARE DOING FOR THE RESPONSIBILITIES THAT YOU CARRY AND AS AN ALUM. YOU KNOW, I FEEL THAT WE SHOULD ALL WORK TOGETHER FOR MAKING OUR UNIVERSITY WHAT WE BELIEVE. IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING THAT REALLY IS A BEACON THAT OTHERS SHOULD CHOOSE TO WANT TO COPY AND EMULATE.

YES. YOU BET.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

YES, MA'AM. AND, MR. CHAIRMAN, IF I CAN JUMP IN ALSO, I'D LOVE TO PARTICIPATE AS WELL.

THE ISSUE IS NOT A SEA BOULDER ISSUE, AND IT IS NOT AN ISSUE THAT ONLY AFFECTS AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS, IT AFFECTS ALL OF THE CAMPUSES AND ALL OF OUR STUDENTS OF COLOR. SO I WOULD LIKE TO SEE US CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON THE LARGER ISSUE.

AND I'M HAPPY TO PARTICIPATE.

SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU, SIR.

ALL RIGHT, SO THANK YOU AGAIN, MR. WE WILL NOW MOVE ON TO OUR SCHEDULED BUSINESS ITEMS. WE'RE GOING TO TAKE THESE AGENDA ITEMS A BIT OUT OF ORDER, AS YOU SEE LISTED THERE ON BOARD DOCS. OR PERHAPS I HAVEN'T REFRESHED MY BOARD DOCS.

SO MAYBE THEY'VE ALREADY BEEN UPDATED.

BUT MY PLAN NOW IS TO GO TO THE ACTION ITEM WITH RESPECT, TO DEGREE REVOCATION.

[2. Action Item: Revocation of PhD awarded to Michael Regner and approval of award of Master of Science; University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus]

AND THEN WE WILL FOLLOW THAT BY THE CHARGE TO THE PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH COMMITTEE AND WITH AN INFORMATION ITEM STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE FROM PRESIDENT SOLOMON.

AND LET ME SEE IF BOARD DOCS IS REFRESHED.

WE HAVE DECIDED TO TAKE THE DEGREE REVOCATION INTO TWO STEPS.

SO. DON'T.

DEPUTY SECRETARY AMEEN, I DON'T SEE THAT IT'S BEEN UPDATED YET ON MY END BOARD DOCS.

SO I DIDN'T WANT TO MAKE TWO AGENDA ITEMS, SO WE'LL JUST DO THE FIRST RESOLVING CLAUSE IS OUR FIRST VOTE IN THE FURTHER RESOLVING CLAUSE WILL BE OUR SECOND VOTE.

OK, SO WE'LL TAKE A MOTION.

I WILL ACCEPT THE MOTION NOW.

IF THERE IS ONE ON THE FOLLOWING RESOLVED CLAUSE.

RESOLVED THE BOARD OF REGENTS CONCURS WITH THE RECOMMENDATION BY CHANCELLORS DON ELLIMAN AND MICHELLE MARKS THAT THE PHD RECEIVED BY MICHAEL REGNER AND THE DEPARTMENT OF BIOENGINEERING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO DENVER ANSCHUTZ MEDICAL CAMPUS, SHOULD BE REVOKED AND HEREBY REVOKE SUCH DEGREE.

IS THERE A MOTION.

MOVED.

SECOND.

IT'S BEEN MOVED BY LESLEY SMITH AND SECONDED BY CALLIE RENNISON.

IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION? I MAKE A COMMENT CHAIR KROLL.

PLEASE REGENT SHARKEY. I THINK IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THIS INDIVIDUAL SELF-REPORTED AND I THINK THAT SPEAKS QUITE HIGHLY OF HIS ABILITY TO ADMIT A MISTAKE.

AND SADLY, THIS HAPPENED FOR HIM.

BUT TO I JUST WANT TO RECOGNIZE THAT HE SELF-REPORTED THIS.

IN APPRECIATE, HE DID SO.

THAT IS A GOOD POINT FOR THE RECORD, REGENT SHARKEY.

ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL RIGHT, I'M GOING TO ASK YOU TO CALL THE ROLE ON THIS.

YES. AND THIS VOTE IS FOR THE DEGREE REVOCATION.

REGENT CHAVEZ.

AYE.

REGENT GALLEGOS YES.

REGENT GANAHL.

YES. REGENT RENNISON.

YES. REGENT SHARKEY.

YES. REGENT SMITH.

YES. REGENT SPIEGEL.

YES. AND CHAIR KROLL.

YES. GREAT.

SO THAT APPEARS TO HAVE PASSED EIGHT ZERO, THANK YOU.

NOW WE WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION ON THE SECOND RESOLVE CLAUSE, WHICH IS RESOLVED AT THE BOARD OF REGENTS, CONCURS WITH THE RECOMMENDATION TO APPROVE THE DEFERRAL OF ON MICHAEL UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO DENVER ANSCHUTZ MEDICAL CAMPUS, FOR WHICH HE HAS FULFILLED THE REQUIREMENTS. IS THERE A MOTION? I SO MOVED. IT'S BEEN MOVED BY REGENT RENNISON AND SECONDED BY REGENT SHARKEY, IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION ON THIS ITEM? OK. HEARING NO DISCUSSION.

DEPUTY SECRETARY AMEEN, WILL YOU CALL THE ROLL? REGENT CHAVEZ.

AYE. REGENT GALLEGOS.

YES. REGENT GANAHL.

YES. REGENT RENNISON.

YES. REGENT SHARKEY.

YES. REGENT SMITH.

YES. REGENT SPIEGEL.

YES. AND CHAIR KROLL.

YES. ALL RIGHT, THAT ITEM HAS BEEN PASSED.

[00:05:02]

NOW WE MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ACTION ITEM, WHICH IS THE CHARGE TO THE PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH

[3. Action Item: Charge to the Presidential Search Committee]

COMMITTEE. THAT FINAL DOCUMENT IS NOW LOCATED IN BOARD DOCS.

I APPRECIATE ALL THE REGENTS WHO PROVIDED INPUT THAT WE'VE RECEIVED, AND I WILL NOW ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CHARGE TO THE SEARCH COMMITTEE.

SO MOVED. OKAY, IT'S BEEN MOVED BY REGENT CHAVEZ AND SECONDED BY REGENT SMITH.

IS THERE A DISCUSSION ON THIS ITEM? OH, YEAH. REGENT KROLL, THE COMMENT THAT I MADE ABOUT IT BEING ABOUT THE CHARGE BEING INCLUDED IS THAT INCLUDED IN THE OFFICIAL ONE? SECRETARY HUETH, DID YOU HAVE, DID YOU INCLUDE GLENN'S UPDATE FROM THIS MORNING IN THE FINAL COPY HERE? YEP, WE ORDERED A SENTENCE TO THE SCOPE THAT INDICATES THAT THE SEARCH IS BEING CONDUCTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH REGENT POLICY 3C THAT RELATES TO SEARCHES SO.

THANK YOU. ANY FURTHER COMMENTS OR DISCUSSION? REGENT SMITH, I WILL JUST NOTE THAT WE WILL BE MEETING WITH THE COMMITTEE NEXT WEEK ALONG WITH SHELLY AND TEAM, AND SUE AND I ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING THIS PROCESS STARTED.

SO THANK YOU.

WELL, I WILL TAKE A MOMENT THEN TO ADD A FEW MORE COMMENTS I JUST WANT TO RECOGNIZE AND THANK AGAIN EVERY MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC AND THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY WHO STEPPED UP TO APPLY TO BE ON THE SEARCH COMMITTEE, AND WE'RE VERY EXCITED BY THOSE WHOM WE HAVE ACCEPTED THEIR NOMINATIONS AND PLACED ONTO THE SEARCH COMMITTEE.

WE HAVE AN INCREDIBLY TALENTED GROUP LED BY REGENT SMITH AND REGENT SHARKEY OF INDIVIDUALS FROM ACROSS THE STATE OF COLORADO THAT CARE DEEPLY ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY.

THIS CHARGE WILL SERVE AS A GUIDING STAR, A NORTH STAR FOR THAT GROUP, AS THEY PROVIDE INVALUABLE PUBLIC INPUT INTO WHO THE NEXT LEADER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO WILL BE.

I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FREQUENT UPDATES FROM THE CHAIR OF THE SEARCH COMMITTEE, REGENT SMITH, AS WELL AS THE VICE CHAIR OF THE SEARCH COMMITTEE, REGENT SHARKEY.

AND I KNOW THAT YOU ALL WILL BE GUIDED ALONG THE WAY BY AN OUTSTANDING TEAM AT SEARCH COMMITTEE AT THIS POINT.

AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO RECEIVING NO FEWER THAN FIVE UNRANKED CANDIDATES FOR OUR REVIEW AT THE CONCLUSION OF YOUR WORK.

BEST OF BEST WISHES.

GO OUT THERE AND FIND SOME AMAZING CANDIDATES FOR US AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING WHAT YOU ALL WILL BRING US IN THE SPRING OF 2022.

THANK YOU CHAIR KROLL.

FOR ALL OF THAT. REGENT SMITH, WOULD YOU TAKE A MINUTE TO OUTLINE KIND OF WHAT THE NEXT STEPS ARE? I KNOW YOU'RE MEETING WITH THE COMMITTEE NEXT MONDAY.

BUT WHEN WILL THE JOB BE POSTED OR WILL IT BE POSTED? JUST FOR THE RECORD, IF YOU GIVE THE NEXT FOUR OR FIVE STEPS? SURE. AND SHELLY, MAYBE YOU CAN FILL IN ALSO.

SO WE WILL BE MEETING NEXT WEEK WITH THE COMMITTEE AND THEY WILL RECEIVE THEIR CHARGE AND WE WILL HAVE SOME ADMINISTRATIVE THINGS TO TAKE CARE OF.

AND THEN WE'VE GOT A CALENDAR TIMELINE AND WE NEED TO GET DATES ON THE CALENDAR, ON EVERYBODY'S CALENDAR FOR WHEN WE WILL BE MEETING.

I BELIEVE SHELLEY IS STARTING TO GET INFORMATION ABOUT CANDIDATES NOW.

YOU KNOW, ANY OF THE REGENTS, IF YOU ARE BEING APPROACHED, THERE IS A WEBSITE THAT PERHAPS SHELLY OR CALLIE, PUT IN THE CHAT TO DIRECT PEOPLE TO SUBMIT INFORMATION THERE OR TO ASK QUESTIONS OF THE SEARCH FIRM.

AND OUR PLAN IS THAT IF ALL GOES WELL, WE WILL BE VOTING ON THE PRESIDENT BEFORE. WELL, WE WILL BE BRINGING THE CANDIDATE OR CANDIDATES FORWARD BEFORE CLASSES AND AT THE END OF THE SPRING SEMESTER.

AND SHELLY, WOULD YOU LIKE TO ADD ANYTHING? THANKS, REGENT SMITH.

I THINK THE ONLY ITEM I WOULD ADD IS THAT THE COMMITTEE WILL BE LOOKING AT DRAFT ADVERTISEMENTS. WE'RE HOPING TO HIT THE DECEMBER DEADLINE FOR THE CHRONICLE, WHICH WOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE DECEMBER 22ND.

AND THEN THAT WOULD APPEAR IN, I BELIEVE, THE FIRST OR SECOND WEEK OF JANUARY.

[00:10:01]

SO THE PUBLIC NOTIFICATION OF THE FACT THAT WE'RE LOOKING WILL LIKELY APPEAR.

IT'LL APPEAR ONLINE IN DECEMBER, AND WE'LL APPEAR IN HARD COPY IN THE CHRONICLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION AS A PLACE TO BEGIN IN EARLY JANUARY.

SO WE ARE POISED AND READY TO GO IN AS SOON AS THE COMMITTEE IS ABLE TO FINALIZE DOCUMENTS. WE WILL BE IN THE MARKETPLACE OFFICIALLY.

AND THE JOB POSTING IS GOING MUCH WIDER THAN JUST THE CHRONICLE, INCLUDING SOME, YOU KNOW, BLACK LED OR HISPANIC LED SOCIETIES AND SO FORTH, SO FOR PUBLICATIONS.

GREAT. ANY ANY FURTHER COMMENT OR DISCUSSION ON THIS ITEM? ALL RIGHT. HEARING NONE, IF YOU WILL, YOU CALL THE ROLL, PLEASE.

YES, REGENT CHAVEZ.

AYE. REGENT GALLEGOS.

YES. REGENT GANAHL.

YES. REGENT RENNISON.

YES. REGENT SHARKEY.

YES. REGENT SMITH.

YES. REGENT SPIEGEL.

YES. AND CHAIR KROLL.

YES. GREAT.

ALL RIGHT, SO THAT ITEM PASSES.

GODSPEED, SEARCH COMMITTEE GO FORTH AND DO YOUR WORK.

WITH THAT, WE HAVE ONE REMAINING ITEM FOR DISCUSSION TODAY, AND SO I'LL HAND THINGS OVER

[4. Information Item: Strategic Plan Update - President Saliman]

TO PRESIDENT SALIMAN FOR THAT AGENDA ITEM.

GREAT, THANK YOU, AND JUST BRIEFLY, THIS IS A QUICK STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE, SO THANK YOU ALL FOR SUPPORTING THE THE ACCELERATED IMPLEMENTATION OF THE STRATEGIC PLAN.

WE'VE PUT A DOCUMENT IN BOARD DOCS THAT OUTLINES SOME OF THE PROJECTS THAT THE CAMPUSES ARE UNDERTAKING TO ADVANCE THE STRATEGIC PLAN GOALS, AND THEY'RE ALL RELATED TO ACTION STEPS THAT HAVE BEEN ALREADY OUTLINED BY THE CAMPUSES.

SO WE WANTED TO JUST PROVIDE THAT IN THERE, ALONG WITH SOME OF THE INVESTMENTS BEING MADE SO THAT YOU HAVE MORE DETAIL ABOUT THE ACTIONS THAT ARE UNDERWAY.

THE CHANCES ARE GOING TO BE COMMUNICATING THESE ACTION STEPS TO THEIR CAMPUSES.

AND SO WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAD A SUMMARY OF THEM AS WELL, AND IT'S RIGHT THERE IN BOARD DOCS. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, DON'T HESITATE TO GIVE US A CALL.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS FOR PRESIDENT SALIMAN? ANY COMMENTS ON THIS MATTER? WELL, I WOULD JUST RECOGNIZE THE WORK THAT WENT INTO ALL OF THIS FROM ALL OF THE CAMPUSES AND THE SYSTEM OFFICE.

WE ARE TAKING BOLD STEPS NOW TO ACCELERATE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN BY MAKING KEY INVESTMENTS ACROSS OUR UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY.

AND THE BOARD FULLY SUPPORTED THAT ACCELERATION, AND WE'RE EXCITED THAT WE HAVE EMBRACED THE BEST IDEAS THAT HAVE COME FORTH FROM NOT ONLY ADMINISTRATION, BUT FACULTY AND OTHER SHARED GOVERNANCE GROUPS.

AS WE HAVE DEVELOPED, THIS STRATEGIC PLAN AND OUR IMPLEMENTATION OF IT BEING ACCELERATED IS GOING TO BE A BOON TO BOTH THE UNIVERSITY AND THE STATE OF COLORADO.

SO THANK YOU, PRESIDENT SALIMON, FOR YOUR WORK ON THIS AND WE'LL KEEP MOVING IT FORWARD.

THANK YOU. I SAW REGENT GANAHL YOU, YOU CAME ON CAMERA.

DID YOU WANT TO ADD ANYTHING? ALL RIGHT. IS THERE ANY FURTHER BUSINESS? OK. SEEING, NO FURTHER BUSINESS, IS THERE A MOTION TO ADJOURN.

SO MOVED.

SECOND. AND MOVED BY REGENT SHARKEY AND SECONDED BY REGENT CHAVEZ.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING AYE.

AYE. ANY OPPOSED? OK, HERE AGAIN, WE ARE ADJOURNED.

HAVE A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY SEASON, EVERYONE, AND WE'LL SEE YOU IN THE NEW YEAR.
